In the words of Angela Davis, "In a racist society it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist." In this vein, Sustainable Food Places is excited to invite you to the launch of its REDI (Race Equity Diversity & Inclusion) for Change programme, commencing with a Zoom webinar on 9:30-11:00am 17th September 2020.

Far from being a one-off webinar, the discussions and learnings from this session will serve as the starting point for SFP's ongoing work on accessibility and inclusion, as we look to initiate needed change within both the SFP network and the UK food sector as a whole. This initial webinar will serve as an opportunity to listen to and share knowledge from across the remarkable voices within the SFP network, highlighting in particular the expertise of black and non-black people of colour, and women/non-binary individuals. There will be a significant portion of the session dedicated to participation from the audience, including questions for the speakers and SFP team, as well as general discussion on the topic of anti-racism in the food sector.

The webinar will revolve around a guided conversation with two keynote speakers: Deputy Mayor of Bristol Councillor Asher Craig, and SFP Coordinator Kemi Akinola of Be Enriched. All attendees will be encouraged to leave the session with at least one tangible action to apply to their own food partnership or organisation. The discussions and outputs from this initial session will be further developed through topic-based participatory workshops to inform programme and sector-wide behaviour change.
