Partneriaeth Bwyd Casnewydd | Newport Food Partnership

Newport Food Partnership is hosted by Newport City Council, with a vision to develop a sustainable, equitable and resilient food system in Newport which supports and enables improved outcomes for communities, public health, the environment and economy. The comprehensive groundwork undertaken by the Council team over 2025 put a strong cross-sector strategy group in place to steer the work of the partnership. This includes representatives from across relevant NCC departments as well as the elected member who leads on Anti-Poverty work. It has members from the Public Sector, including NRW, DWP and ABUHB, as well the two principle Housing Associations, Codi and Hedyn, with GAVO representing the third sector and Business In the Community for local business.

What we do

We have just completed a piece of participatory research mapping community food provision across the city, which is vibrant and diverse and inspiring in how different areas have responded so generously to meet community need. The Community Food Support Network connects all of these groups, with a goal of deepening community and collaboration. We hope to be more effective in meeting the need of Newport residents, while also still prioritising dignity and choice and progressing wider work to tackle some of the structural issues of the problem.

We are in the process of a similar mapping project and network building for community growing and local food producers, and working to better understand our local food supply chains.

We are also in the process of convening community food conversations across the city, working with Newport's residents to understand our local food system, identifying challenges and developing a collective vision of what we would like to see.

When complete, this mapping and engagement work will support the development of a new Food Strategy for Newport, which can guide a systems approach to its transformation to be better for people, place and planet.
