Neath Port Talbot Food Partnership is a growing network of people, businesses and organisations who care about food. We’re here to connect and support everyone working to make good food more available, affordable and accessible across the county. The Partnership is hosted by a 4theRegion and is overseen by a steering group involving the public sector, businesses and voluntary organisations.
The Partnership was established in 2023 and has an expanding membership, bringing people together to strengthen Neath Port Talbot’s food system and support the local food economy. Our aim is to promote joined-up thinking and practical action around key issues such as food poverty, health and nutrition, sustainable farming, food education, and food waste. Together, we’re working towards a future where everyone has access to healthy, local and sustainable food, and where our local producers, growers and food businesses can thrive.
A key focus of our work is rebuilding local food supply chains. We want to make it easier for food buyers – from schools, hospitals, cafes and retailers – to source produce from local farmers and producers. We also celebrate the power of community action and the amazing work already happening across the county.
The Partnership holds open meetings every two months that anyone is welcome to join. The discussions in these meetings, along with other workshops and events, has informed our NPT Cross Sector Food Strategy which sets out our aims and priorities, structured around the SFP framework.
We have been providing practical support to community growing projects through small grants, access to expertise and networking opportunities. We have organised a pilot programme of community cooking courses and have recently undertaken a survey with schools across the county to establish a baseline of their food-related activities, which will inform future support. We have also arranged workshops on public sector procurement and are engaging local farmers about how they could be supported.
The Partnership has been represented at several public events and conferences each year, with information stands and workshops. We also coordinate the central information and engagement marquee at the popular Neath Food and Drink Festival with family activities, talks, and interactive stands involving a range of our members and partners.
We have published two annual NPT Food Guides with useful information about local food and lots of positive articles that share the inspiring stories of local food businesses and community projects. Our new website is now being developed to provide updates on the Partnership's activities and access to useful resources and information: www.nptfood.org.uk.
