Food Cardiff Test

Chaired by the Head of Wrap Cymru, the Food Cardiff Council includes representatives from Cardiff Council, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Welsh Government, Public Health Wales, Cardiff University, and a wide range of private and third sector organisations. Over the last 18 months the partnership has grown and strengthened and has developed a strong brand and social media presence which has facilitated change both at Local and National levels. Food Cardiff is currently focusing on delivering the Beyond the Foodbank Campaign and in particular developing a model to deliver School Holiday Provision which can be replicable across Wales. What we do

Our ongoing work and recent achievements:

  • Food Cardiff is the first of four cities to be awarded Sustainable Food City status. The partnership was awarded the Bronze award at the Sustainable Food Cities Conference in 2015
  • Food Cardiff has completed a pilot to deliver a programme of fun, food and education to children in deprived parts of Cardiff over the summer holidays. A full evaluation is now underway at Northumbria University.
  • Sustain Wales has shortlisted Food Cardiff under three categories in their awards which recognise examples of best practice within Sustainable Development.
  • We were involved in the making of and featured in the BBC Wales series Farmer and the Food Chain – a series which proved so popular it was repeated in Wales and then aired on BBC1 in the UK
  • Cardiff University, University of South Wales and all schools and hospitals in Cardiff now serve sustainable fish as a result of our Sustainable Fish City Campaign. In fact we also got all Hospitals in Wales to sign too!
  • We held a Food Summit to engage with stakeholders from Cardiff. This resulted in the strong partnership we have today.
